Hard wax on faces, always
Facial skin is thinner and more reactive than body skin, so these areas get a hard wax that shrink-wraps the hair and lifts off without a strip. It grips less skin, which means less redness and far less chance of lifting the surface on a spot you have been treating with actives.
Before and after
Stop retinol, glycolic acid and benzoyl peroxide on the area three to five days beforehand, and say so if you are on any prescription acne medication. Afterwards, expect pinkness for an hour or two. Keep makeup off the area for the rest of the day and skip the sauna and direct sun.
Nose waxing, specifically
Only the visible hair just inside the nostril is removed, never the deep hair that filters what you breathe. It takes about a minute per side, the sting is brief, and it lasts about four weeks. It is one of the more popular add-ons for exactly that reason.
Lip, Chin & Nose Waxing FAQ
- $10 for a 10-minute lip wax at GLAMSTHETICS SLC. Chin and nose wax are also $10 each, and brow wax is $20.
- No. That is a persistent myth. Waxing removes hair at the root, and regrowth from a waxed follicle tends to come back finer over time, unlike shaving which cuts across the shaft and leaves a blunt tip that feels coarser.
- Stop retinol on the area for three to five days first. Waxing over retinised skin can lift the surface layer. If you are on isotretinoin, facial waxing is off the table until well after you finish.
- Three to four weeks for most people. Keeping a regular cycle means the hair comes back on the same schedule, which makes each appointment quicker.
