How they go on
The tooth is cleaned and dried, the surface is lightly prepped, and the gem is bonded with the same kind of adhesive used for orthodontic brackets, then cured with a light. Nothing is drilled, and the gem sits on the surface of the enamel.
Single gem, butterfly or disco
A single crystal ($25+) is the classic. The Butterfly ($65) is a multi-gem design shaped across the tooth. The Disco Tooth ($80) covers a full tooth in crystals for maximum sparkle. Bring a photo or pick from the tray in the studio.
Aftercare
Avoid eating for about an hour and skip sticky, crunchy or very hard foods for 24 hours. Brush normally (a soft brush around the gem is fine) and avoid picking at it. Most gems stay on for months; some last well over a year.
Tooth Gems FAQ
- Not when applied and removed properly. The gem is bonded to the surface of the enamel with dental-grade adhesive and nothing is drilled. When you want it off, a dentist can polish the bond away in minutes. Do not pry it off yourself.
- Typically six months to a year, sometimes longer, depending on placement and how well you follow aftercare. If one falls off early, text the studio and we will get you back in.
- Yes, after the first 24 hours. Brush and floss like normal; just avoid electric toothbrush heads directly on the gem and do not chew on hard things with that tooth.
- Gems bond best to natural enamel. They can often be applied to veneers or crowns but may not last as long. If you have braces, wait until they are off. Text a photo if you are unsure.
