What to Expect
Copper before blue, every time
The instinct is to match a blue lash to a blue eye, and it is the one combination that reliably underdelivers. Neighboring hues average out, so the iris and the lash line flatten into a single blue-gray wash and the eye loses definition. Copper, rust, bronze and warm brown sit opposite blue on the wheel and make the iris look more saturated than it actually is.
Gray eyes borrow whatever is next to them
A gray or blue-gray iris carries very little pigment of its own, which is why gray eyes look green in a green sweater. Lashes behave the same way and sit closer to the eye than anything you wear. A plum lash pulls the violet out of gray, a warm brown warms it, a teal pushes it toward blue-green. If your eyes change color with your clothes, they will change with your lash color.
Subtle means fewer, not paler
On light eyes a pale lavender lash is not a quiet choice, because it is a light color against a light iris and shows just as clearly as a saturated one. Discretion comes from quantity and placement instead: five or six colored lashes in the outer third, or color kept on the base of the extension with black tips, rather than a softer shade spread across the whole line.
