Why teal and green do the heavy lifting

A brown iris is built from warm orange and yellow pigment, and the hues sitting opposite those on the color wheel are teal, emerald and deep green. Placed at the lash line they push the warmth in the iris forward instead of competing with it. Teal is the single most requested color for brown eyes in this studio, and it is requested for a reason that is closer to physics than to trend.

Copper, amber and gold for lighter brown

If your eyes are light or medium brown with visible gold flecks, a warm metallic does the opposite job: it matches rather than contrasts, and pulls those flecks out until the whole iris reads amber. It works beautifully on brown that leans hazel, and it does very little on very dark brown, where there are no flecks there to amplify in the first place.

What shows, and what quietly vanishes

Navy, plum and dark burgundy look wonderful in the tray and then read as plain black against a dark iris at conversational distance, which is either a wasted $10 or exactly the discreet effect you were after. Lighting flips it too: under cool office fluorescents the warm coppers go flat and the teals hold, while in warm evening light and camera flash the coppers are the ones that glow.
